2008 Crawl for the Cure recap
This year was our best ever! We raised just over $42,000 this year. This brings
our 4 year total to over $120,000! This is all thanks to you guys & gals. We can't
thank you enough for all of your support. This year, we were fighting a down economy
& huge fuel prices, yet you managed to be part of the largest participant group
ever, 69. Somehow, it seems impossible, but you did it, & for that we thank you,
with all sincerity. We also had a little side deal going with the Quad Cities Food
shelf. Through that program our event brought 714 lbs. of food. That’s enough to
fill an 8’ pickup box. Wow, who would have thought that that would work out so well.
Every year we try to change things a bit or add new stuff. This year we added a
Girls drive trail ride. That was a huge success & will be done again next year for
sure. We also did a couple of timed competitions. The Lone Pine & UA run. I wonder
if anyone from Peterson's Magazine ever thought "their" UA trail would be run in
46 seconds. Way to go Roger. Even Leo was amazing with 53 secs. Viz did ok, being
that he only has 44" tires.
Our sponsors are the ones who really help us financially. Minneapolis Auto Auction,
Benna Ford , and Burnsville Offroad. These 3 companies, along with many other sponsors,
kick it up a notch for us & allow us to put this event on with a few luxuries. Burnsville
Offroad, first off, completely built the raffle Jeep, donated money, the winch etc.
Then at the last minute, Dan, bought 50 Jeep raflle tickets to be given away as
door prizes. We can't thank you enough & will be forever indebted. Your attitude,
company & friendship is top notch & will never be forgotten.
Awards were given out again this year. Scott & Krissy Potter won the Hope award
for the 2nd time in a row for raising the most money. Randy Johnson won the worst
broke award, Best engineered went to Don Irwin, for his TJ with the stroked Mopar
motor & homemade fuel injection. Mark Filanowich took home the Sportsman honors
for many reasons, but most of all, just being there to help out and being such a
great guy.
The raffle Jeep was won by Don Millar of New Hope. Congratulations to him. Maybe
we'll gain another offroader out of the deal. Whatever he decides to do with the
rig, We certainly hope he enjoys it. I always hear many comments on the event and
it always makes me feel really good. This year I heard that people were skipping
other events, due to the economy, but they were going to make it to this one. Trust
me when I say, that we will always strive to be the best event around, but I feel
it's such a success because of all of the participant's. You people are really what
make or break an event. So again, thank you. We have already picked our dates for
next year. Again, the 3rd weekend in July. July 16-19, 2009. Keep the dates & start
preparing for our best year ever.
